Team யாழி, comprising undergraduates from the Department of Computer Engineering, University of Peradeniya, secured the second runner-up position at OctWave 3.0, an AI and machine learning competition organized by the IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) Student Branch Chapter of the University of Moratuwa.

The competition brought students together to apply AI and machine learning skills to practical challenges. It included workshops followed by two online Kaggle rounds. Teams advancing from the preliminary round competed for a place among the top ten finalists.

From an initial field of 208 teams, Team யாழி progressed to the top 70 and then earned a place in the top ten. At the in-person final held at the University of Moratuwa on 20 September 2026, the finalists worked with an industry dataset and presented their solutions to a judging panel. Team யாழி completed the competition in third place, earning the second runner-up award.

The team comprised Fikry Nuhuman, Ganathipan Sivasakthynathan, Jarshigan Kamalanathan, and Kavishanthan Sarvaloganayakam.

Congratulations to Team யாழி on progressing through each stage of the competition and achieving this result. Their performance brings recognition to PeraCom and the University of Peradeniya.
