Team MetaX of PeraCom Secures Second Runner-Up at BioFusion Hackathon 2026

A team of final year undergraduate students from the Department of Computer Engineering, University of Peradeniya, PeraCom secured the Second Runner-Up position at BioFusion Hackathon 2026, a medical-themed Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) competition held in conjunction with the BioFusion Science Convention.

The BioFusion Hackathon encourages students to develop innovative AI/ML based solutions to address real-world healthcare and medical challenges. The 2026 edition of the competition attracted 65 teams, making it a highly competitive event.

Representing PeraCom, Team MetaX presented an innovative, non-invasive approach for early liver cirrhosis detection adapting their work in the final year research project. The solution was recognized for its relevance and innovation, placing the team among the top performers of the competition.

The team comprising Chamuditha Jananga, Pasindu Malshan, and Tharushika Prasadinie, are final-year undergraduate students of the Department of Computer Engineering. The project was carried out under the supervision of Senior Lecturer Dr. Damayanthi Herath.

Congratulations to Team MetaX for their outstanding performance and for bringing recognition to the Department of Computer Engineering, University of Peradeniya.
