PeraCom Students Win Merit Award at NBQSA National ICT Awards 2025

A team of final-year undergraduates from the Department of Computer Engineering, University of Peradeniya, has brought pride to the department by securing a Merit Award in the Tertiary Student Category (Business) at the NBQSA National ICT Awards 2025, organized by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT.

The prestigious NBQSA Awards serve as a national platform to recognize and benchmark outstanding ICT innovations in Sri Lanka, promoting local talent in the global arena. Conducted annually since 1998 by the Sri Lankan section of BCS, the competition attracts some of the most promising ICT products and innovations from across the country.

This year’s competition saw participation from over 60 teams, making the recognition a significant achievement. The award-winning team namely, Chethiya Bandara, Mathisha Bandara, Bimsara Janakantha, and Sarani Jayasooriya, all final-year undergraduate students of the Department of Computer Engineering, received the Merit Award for their project, “SkyT: A Drone-based Smart Crop Management System”. SkyT leverages drone technology and intelligent analytics to monitor and manage crop health, aiming to improve agricultural productivity through data-driven insights. The project was carried out under the supervision of Senior Lecturer Dr. Isuru Nawinne and Lecturer Mr. Biswajith Dissanayake, reflecting the innovative thinking and technical excellence nurtured within the Peradeniya Computer Engineering community.

Congratulations to the team for this remarkable achievement and for bringing recognition to the University of Peradeniya at a prestigious national platform.
