The teamESLE from the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, had been chosen to advance to the Imagine Cup World Finals in March 2022 by being selected to the top 48 teams. 

Imagine Cup is an annual competition sponsored and hosted by Microsoft Corp. that brings together student developers worldwide to help resolve some of the world’s toughest challenges. The Imagine Cup 2022 competition saw over 100 team entries from student innovators across the region competing to solve global challenges across Earth, Education, Health, and Lifestyle categories. From the teams who submitted projects, four teams from Sri Lanka, including the team ESLE.

The victorious team, led by S.M. Viraj Dhanushka from the Department of Computer Engineering and much supported by members M.K. Hans Thisanke from the Department of Computer Engineering, S.P. Vimukthi Ashan from the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering and T. Akitha Madusanga from the Department of Civil Engineering, displayed exceptional effort throughout this grand event for making it this far. Their winning project ‘Digital Signage Based User Targeted Advertising’ is an innovative and complete digital signage solution that can perform user targeted advertising by identifying individuals and groups of customers by their age, gender, and other preferences.

The team members explained their journey to the world finalists and said that after applying with their project proposal and details to SEA New Market First Round Competition, they were selected as SEA New Market Finalists (in to the Top 12 teams) and presented in the SEA New Markets Final (Regional Finals) on February 25, 2022. There, they have been selected as the winner in the ‘Lifestyle category’ in the Regional Finals and advanced to the Microsoft Imagine Cup World Finalists stage (the top 48 teams in the world). Team further said, by attending the mentoring sessions with Microsoft MVPs (Most Valuable Professional) they  gained a lot of insights, knowledge to improve their project and Microsoft Azure grant to use. The team  presented Virtually in Imagine cup 2022 World finals, to a panel of judges.

The team looks forward to showcasing their talent on the international field in future events as well and bring pride to the University and the motherland. Congratulations to these incredible students and wishing you for your future endeavors.
